WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BJJ AND OTHER MARTIAL ARTS?

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was specifically designed to empowered the weak against the strong. Unlike other martial arts where they rely on strength, speed and athleticism, there are no physical prerequisites to do Jiu Jitsu. Everything we do is based on leverage so litteraly anyone can do it. One other very important thing is that Jiu Jitsu allows you to neutraize a violent person without causing any permanent damage

WHAT IF I DON'T HAVE ANY PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE?

No Problem, most new students dont have any previous experience. We will take care of you and teach you everything you need to know. Our program is designed so a new student can start at any time and not feel confused or overwhelmed

DO I NEED TO BE IN SHAPE?

You definitely don't need to be in shape to start, in fact, you can start with a goal to get in shape by doing BJJ. The idea that you can't start Brazilian Jiu Jitsu until you're fit is similar to saying you can't start going to the gym until you're fit enough to work out

CAN I DO BJJ IF I HAD PREVIOUS INJURIES?

Yes in most cases you can. The classes are safe and structured so you can participate. We arrange the training to suit your possibilities and problems. Go at your own speed and we will help you to work around any limitations. Come and try a class and feel it out for yourself

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

In BJJ for Sport we use a uniform called Gi and in Grappling Classes NoGi. Gi is another name for the Japanese traditional dress Kimono. Most people use MMA Shorts, Leggings and Rash Guard in Grappling Classes. If you dont have any of those clothes then just wear regular Shorts and T-Shirt. In Jiu Jitsu for Self Defense we Mix Gi and NoGi in our training, and sometimes we even use our regular clothes or the clothes you wear at work to be prepared for any situation at any time.

DO I NEED ANY PROTECTIVE GEAR?

Most people use Groin Guard and Mouth Guard but that is optional. There is no need for you to buy those items for start training. We help you advicing or selling wear and gear once you become a member.

DO I NEED TO BOW AND CALL THE TRAINER SENSEI, SIFU OR MASTER?

No we call each other by the first name and use a simple hand shake. No Brazilian, Japanese or Thai Cultural behaviour in our Gym. We are just using natural and normal human behaviour. We don't talk about religion, politics or other ideology in our training.

MAYBE I'M TOO OLD FOR BJJ?

No it is never too late to start anything in life, Jiu Jitsu included!
There is many positive stories about older peolpe who started to train BJJ and still do it.
Try it out to see if it is something for you. There is a thriving community of senior practitioners in Jiu Jitsu.

I HAVE GLASSES?

You can use your glasses while the trainer is teaching, but when you are training you have to take them off. Using contact lenses instead of glasses is preferable if possible. Even some blind people are training in Jiu jitsu.

WHO WILL I PRACTISE WITH?

In our gym we generally rotate training partners. That way you learning how to handle different body types and behaviours. If you are not comfortable for any reason, let us know and we will try to help you solve that problem.

WILL I GET INJURED?

There is always a possibility to get injured in any activity or sport you engage in. But we have made our training safe and fun in the regular calesses so the risk is very low. If you decide to train in the Team Classes for competition the risk naturally increases.

IS IT SAFE FOR MY CHILD TO TRAIN BJJ?

Absolutely, we have a thriving Juniors program that is well supervised and safe for children. Our kids program focuses on playful games and gaining body knowledge.
The core values of discipline, respect and hardwork that prepares kids for adult life, helping them to overcome modern problems.

DO I HAVE TO COMPETE?

Absolutely not, we understand that not everyone plans to be a competitor. You will still receive the same high level instruction and attention needed to reach your own individual goals for Jiu-Jitsu. The majority in most BJJ schools are non-competitors, but many still take pride in coming out to support the competition team at local and regional tournaments

IT SEEMS TO BE VERY MALE ORIENTED, CAN WOMEN TRAIN JIU JITSU?

Of course you can, at first glance it can seem like BJJ is a heavily male dominated activity and sport but in fact, women's Jiu jitsu is thriving all around the world. In our gym all genders of all ages are welcomed. We have created a very diverse and inclusive environment for you to train in.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I TRAIN?

This is another common question from adults getting started in BJJ. There’s no single answer, since your personal goals need to be considered. It comes down to striking the right balance of enough classes to progress with enough time to rest and recover so you don’t get physically or mentally burned out.
If you’re training once a week, every class is going to be really, really hard. If you’re training two to three times a week, you’re in the sweet spot. If you’re training three to four days a week, you’re still in the sweet spot, especially if you’re really loving your classes. If you’re training five to six days a week, you’re probably competing. In that case, you probably aren’t reading this.

WHAT IS NO-GI JIU JITSU?

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu without the Kimono / Gi is formally known as NoGi / Grappling and its an ever increasingly popular sport that uses Jiu Jitsu, Wrestling, Sambo and Judo techniques and incorporates them into a singular type of personal grappling. While some love to train in the kimono, which is largely regarded as the foundations of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. No Gi training is an essential part of a fully rounded grappling game.
